Watch a waterfall land in the ocean
Gásadalur is fifteen people in a bowl of mountains on the west side of Vágar, and its stream never reaches a beach. It runs to the cliff edge and goes over, straight into the sea, in a single fall called Múlafossur.
Until 2004 there was no road into the village at all. The way in was a path over a mountain more than four hundred meters high, and that is the way the mail came, on foot, in whatever weather was happening. What replaced it is a single-lane tunnel bored through the same mountain, 1.4 kilometers of it.
The fall is seen from the side and a little above, with the houses of the village behind it and the islet of Tindhólmur out in the water past it. The walk from the road to the spot takes a few minutes on flat ground, which for something this size is not the usual arrangement, and is a fair description of the whole island.
